Mission Statement

We, the Metro New York District Young Adult Steering Committee covenant to promote a growing and welcoming young adult community (ages 18 to 35). We foster spirituality, community, social justice, and leadership development. We empower young adults to be active participants and leaders in congregations. We encourage congregations to support and integrate the gifts that young adults bring to our lifespan Unitarian Universalist faith.

• Chair: (Ryan Novosielski)

  Responsible for the overall activities of the committee. Responsible for planning and overseeing committee meetings. Responsible for coordinating the efforts of the committee members.

• Vice Chair: (Royal Forest)

  Responsible for assisting in overall activities of the committee and serving as chair as the need arises. Will generally succeed the current chair when term is up.

• Secretary: (-VACANT-)

  Responsible for keeping minutes during committee meetings and emailing them to the Web Coordinator for posting to the website. Responsible for archival materials (i.e. posters, flyers, photos, etc.).

• Treasurer: (Greg Axel-Lute)

  Responsible for the budget of the steering committee and its activities. Requires communication with RE Program Consultant, overseeing fundraising and submitting requests for funding or reimbursement.

• Events Coordinator: (Jai Berg)

  Responsible for organizing events for young adults throughout the district.

• Chaplain: (-VACANT-)

  Responsible for advising committee on activities and events. Responsible for serving as or recruiting a Chaplain for district events.

• Cluster Coordinator: (-VACANT-)

  Individual responsible for reaching out and supporting young adult groups in a designated areas of the MNY district. Outreach involves organizing local leaders in congregations, and providing information and resources when needs arise, such as help with building a group, worship ideas, etc. Clusters include: New York City (Five Boroughs), New Jersey/Pennsylvania, Connecticut/Westchester, and Long Island.

• Web Coordinator (Acting): (Ryan Novosielski)

  Responsible for maintaining district young adult website, http://uumetrony.org/ya. Responsible for maintaining committee list serve, http://lists.uua.org/mailman/listinfo/mnyd-ya-sc.

Advisory/Ex-Officio Positions

• District Executive: (Andrea Lerner)

  Serves as staff to the committee (i.e. as a resource, an advocate for funding and liaison for concerns to/from the district Board.

• District Consultant: (Sara Angell-Isom)

  Unitarian Universalist Association Youth & Young Adult Ministries Consultant for the Metro NY District.
