Seventh Annual Winter Retreat!

Feb. 17-20, 2011 at Frost Valley YMCA (click for details on the location)

Spend Presidents Day Weekend (February 17-20, 2012) in community with fellow Metro NY District Unitarian Universalist Young Adults at Frost Valley YMCA Camp in Claryville, NY! Stay 3 nights (meals included) in a beautiful 40-person environmentally friendly lodge with a wood-burning fireplace.

Meet new friends, re-connect with old ones, and just relax in the Catskill mountains and enjoy a striking view of the stars. Participate in making arts and crafts, hiking or snow tubing — to name a few — or take some time for personal reflection, followed by a nightly worship service. An open-mic night is also likely.

The cost of the retreat will start at $225 for the first 15 registrants and will increase to $285 after that. If you consider what you would normally spend for a cross-country ski weekend with hotel, rentals and meals, it’s very inexpensive! We are also looking for individuals who might be able to offer scholarship money in excess of their registration to help others attend the retreat. If you are able to give more, please choose that option on the FormDesk registration. Scholarships will be available on a limited basis to those who need them, with preference given to first-time attendees!

Payment is possibly by credit card, in addition to cash, check, or money order. NOTE: please pay by check or money order if you are able, as it will save the district money on credit card fees!

Registration is now available on FormDesk. Click HERE to register.

Thank you to those that have already donated money for scholarships to help other young adults attend our winter retreat. If you are able to donate and have not yet done so, we ask that you please make this pledge by January 21st so that we can finalize all scholarship decisions by the end of this month. As many who have attended this retreat before know, this is a great place to meet other young adults from the Metro NY area and has really helped build community between young adults from different congregational communities. Your donation can make a big difference to the person that receives it.

For those that need to apply for a scholarship, please send your request to our treasurer and registrar, Greg Axel-Lute, at ya-treasurer@uumetrony.org and make sure that it is received by January 21st. This request should include a short description of your need and how much you can afford to pay. Please bear in mind that we may not be able to fulfill all requests.

Thanks in advance for your help in this process.

Every April, youth and adults from around the United States and Canada gather in New York City for the UU-UNO’s (UU United Nation’s Office) educational Intergenerational Spring Seminar. All participants gain a deep understanding on a topic of global concern and have a lot of fun in the wonderful intergenerational environment.

This year’s topic is *Climate Change*. During these four days approximately 75 youth and advisors stay at one of our Manhattan based UU congregations, learning, making friends, having fun, and mobilizing. Not only do youth attend the conference but many also take on important leadership roles in its planning and execution.

Featured speakers include: Dr. Tony Broccoli, Dr. Graciella Chichilnsky, Dr. Alan Robock, and Rev. Fletcher Harper
