TO CHALICE LIGHTER COORDINATORS: HOW TO "LIGHT CHALICES"
1. Here are ideas that work.
Discuss with and enlist support from the minister,
president, denominational affairs committee, and newsletter editor for
the upcoming Call. Post information about the called congregation on
bulletin boards and publicize in the newsletter, including the date of
the Sunday you will have a Chalice Lighters collection for them.
Taking up a special offering on that Sunday morning with mention in
your Order of Service.
Enlist your minister’s support for
that service. Allow five minutes during that service for a visiting
speaker from the called congregation to present their hopes and
plans. Introduce the speaker, preceded by a very brief explanation
of the Chalice Lighters program. Include speaker’s name in your
Order of Service.
No speaker? Describe the Chalice
Lighters program briefly to your congregation with a few words
explaining why the called congregation was chosen.
Set up a special table for coffee hour to receive contributions.
Important...have collections the following two or more Sundays
for contributions from persons absent the first Sunday...with a one
minute announcement to the congregation stating how much was collected and your
goal.
2. Chalice Lighter coordinators have two options as to
how to receive and deliver Chalice Lighter contributions.
Record names of contributors and have checks made out to your
congregation with the name of the called congregation on the memo
line. Treasurer then writes one check made out to UUDMNY (with the
name of the called congregation on the memo line) that includes the
total of all of the individual checks as well as the cash
contributions; OR
Have individual checks made out to UUDMNY (with the name of the
called congregation on the memo line). Convert cash to one check.
3. Please mail checks to:
